This Dalmatian island, a bit away comparing with other islands on Dalmatian coast, both physically and in it’s own style, is real treat for those who want experience freedom, ease of living, true summer fun and relaxation at the same time.
While the island of Vis was the location for filming the famous Hollywood movie Mamma Mia 2, it is not a typical glamorous place like some other locations, such as Dubrovnik. Exactly that gives this place it’s charm and beauty which can be felt by all it’s visitors.
We recommend that you rent a scooter or bicycle and enjoy riding on the Vis roads among the Mediterranean vegetation with a fantastic view on the blue sea. That is best way to experience this island and in addition to that you can find on this little exploring trip some other location like hidden beach, little village, etc. Island Vis is perfect choice for adventure and little exploration.
From the road you will also have a view on smaller islands surrounding Vis island such as Biševo, Budikovac, Jabuka, Ravnika or Svetac. Some of these islets can be visited as part of our tour, which includes a visit to the Blue Cave.
In addition to the wealth of natural beauty, you will immediately after arrival be able to see that the island has also a rich history.
The first inhabitants, that gave the name of the island, were old Greeks. Throughout history, government has often changed so in architecture of the island can be found traces of Venice, Catalonia, France, England and Austro – Hungarian culture, as well as the remnants of communist rule.
This combination of European cultures in such a small place makes not only the islands of Dalmatia, but also the whole country unique. This combination of different cultures gives acknowledgment to places and towns of Croatia and Dalmatia, and that can be seen in small places of the island such as town of Vis and Komiza.
Perhaps that is the reason for the relax attitude, simplicity and tolerance of the island’s inhabitants. Or maybe just simplicity of the island and nature affects everyone who is spend some time there.
If you’ve always envied those who have been escaping to some of the warmer regions at the happy end of a movie and enjoyed being hidden from reality on the beautiful beaches, with a cocktail or a glass of wine in hand, then it’s your time to sail to Vis.
