Nautical Center Komiza

This unique gem of nature is special in that the sun’s rays pass through an opening located below sea level, which then create splendid blue light. This fantastic effect attracts many visitors every year, and to enter the cave you must board one of the boats operated by experienced Barkaryoli of the Nautical Center Komiža.

In winter, during the great south, the power of the waves is ejected through the openings in the vault of the cave “geyser” of the sea and foam, which is certainly no less attractive than the known lighting effects, but due to the harsh natural conditions is inaccessible for tourists.

Many agree that the visit is most beautiful between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on a sunny day. If you get to the cave before 10 a.m., you will see a not-so-intense light. The Blue Cave on the island of Biševo opposite Komiža is anything but an ordinary cave.

In it, sunlight and sea meet and illuminate the cave with beautiful shades of blue and silver. This interesting game of light occurs when sunlight penetrates through the underwater opening of the cave, and breaking through the surface of the sea, illuminates its walls with blue.

Once you enter the cave, you can spend 15 minutes in it, which is enough to experience the beauty of the blue rays spread by crystal clear waves. Keep in mind that you should not swim inside, but you can do it in other caves on Biševo.
